The Department of Child and Adolescent Health produces new information concerning the health of children and adolescents, makes research data available to municipalities, improves the health of children and adolescents through national guidance services, and supports especially the maternity and child health care system and school health care service.
The department takes care of the nationwide screening of prenatal infections, thereby preventing infectious diseases that threaten the health of mothers and children. The department also relies on the expertise of other KTL departments, for example in child and adolescent nutrition, prevention of smoking and alcohol consumption, weight control, vaccinations, hygiene, prevention of infectious diseases, and mental health.
The department will begin to provide services in 2007. It will reinforce its role within KTL and develop broader national collaboration.
