The Laboratory for Population Research (VTL), started in early 2004, carries out population-level and clinical research, develops methods used in population studies, and contributes to health surveys and registry-based research. Methods applied at the laboratory include biochemical assays, clinical physiological measurements, imaging, and functional capacity assessments. Functional capacity assessments feasible in population studies are an important area for methodological development. The laboratory also provides biochemical and clinical physiological testing as paid services. Within the National Public Health Institute (KTL), co-operation is done primarily with the Unit for Population-based Health Research (TTY).
