Smoke Free Partnership -
Young People, Schools and Communities in Europe
The project's aim was to delay the onset of smoking and to reduce smoking prevalence among 9-15 year-olds by targeting one cohort of 500-1000 young people in five European countries over a 3-year programme.
The project seeked to:
involve schools and the community, especially parents, in owning the smoking problem and taking responsibility for its solution by supporting young people who have chosen to be smokefree
provide transferable, innovative education materials on smoking and health
determine the effectiveness of such a longitudinal locally-based initiative.
The project began in 1998 and ended in 2001.
