The 2nd European Youth Conference

The aim of the conference was to promote the common goal of staying smokefree and building up cultural links and friendship between youngsters from different European countries. The Conference gathered together about 250 pupils from 12 EU Member States and Iceland.
The participants of the Conference were the national winners of the Smokefree Class Competition, which attracted this year almost 500 000 participants in 15 countries (see http://www.smokefreeclass.info).
The Conference was opened at 11.00 a.m. at Karlplaz by a press conference in presence of Director Matti Rajala, Department of Public Health of the European Commission.
The programme was divided into two parts: On Friday 31 May, the school classes presented their smoking prevention actions and presentations. On Saturday, there were numerous workshops with the theme "prevention of tobacco use" and further possibilities to get to know each other and the city of Munich.
