Aims and methods
To review chronic disease prevention strategies, intervention methods and programmes, with special examples from the European NCD strategy, WHO/EURO CINDI programme experience and the North Karelia Project will be reviewed.

Aim of course
The aim of the course is to acquaint the participants with the current international NCD strategies, to offer training in planning, implementation and evaluation of chronic disease prevention interventions and to present examples of successful chronic disease prevention programmes. The process of the European NCD strategy development and implementation will be reviewed. In discussions on chronic disease prevention interventions experiences gathered in the WHO/EURO CINDI programme participating countries, especially the North Karelia project will be utilized, special visit to North Karelia to illustrate the main strategies and activities used in the North Karelia Project will be organized.
Registration
Applications to the seminar should be submitted no later than four weeks prior to the seminar using the enclosed
application form. Maximum of 40 participants can be signed in for the training seminar. The participation fee can be paid after participation confirmation and the registration is confirmed after paying the participation fee. The fee is payable to the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) as the following:

National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Mannerheimintie 166, F-building, 00300 Helsinki. The training seminar includes three days lecture part and a two-day field visit to the North Karelia county. Enclosed is the preliminary
programme outline.
Fees and costs
Participation fee 600 € includes lunches and refreshments and programme material. The participants should cover their travel and hotel costs both in Helsinki and in Joensuu, North Karelia and arrange themselves their travels. However, assistance related to organizing travel by train to Joensuu can be provided.
