FINAMI is a Finnish myocardial infarction register, which aims to monitor and investigate the mortality, incidence, case fatality, and prognosis of acute myocardial infarction events. This register continues the work of the FINMONICA Myocardial Infarction Register, which was operating in Finland as a part of the WHO MONICA Project during 1983-1992. The planned monitoring period of the FINAMI Register is 1993-2002. The monitored areas are: city of Oulu, city of Joensuu and certain adjacent rural communities, city of Kuopio, and the city of Turku. The aim is to register according to a standardized protocol each coronary event occurring in these populations and suspected to be either a MI or coronary death. Cardiovascular risk factor levels are being surveyed in these same populations every five years by the National FINRISK Study. In practice, the FINAMI project is being carried out in collaboration with local hospital districts, clinical researchers, and the National Public Health Institute (KTL).
