Molecular Medicine

The mission of the Department of Molecular Medicine is to produce new understanding of the molecular background of human diseases. Implementation of this new understanding will create the basis for novel therapies as well as new prevention and intervention strategies in many public health problems.

Department of Molecular Medicine aims to produce top level research in the molecular background of cardiovascular, immunological and neuropsychiatric diseases. Our expertise in modern genetic and cell biological methods as well as in new tools of bioinformatics and biocomputing facilitates professional analyses of excellent Finnish study samples. We plan to be a national and international center of excellence in genetic epidemiology of common diseases and in molecular and cellular biology of cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric diseases. This setting will facilitate excellent research of important public health problems and create a unique environment for training of young scientists in the postgenome era of biomedical research.
