Quality Assessment of Stroke Event Registration
Data in the WHO MONICA Project
Appendix 1. Edit specifications for stroke events
(See Section 3, Table 4
and Appendix 2.)
- Form 03
- Version 3
- Edit Specifications version 4, 8-Jun-1992
General
The MONICA Data Centre (MDC) checks all stroke events core
data received from the MONICA Collaborating Centres (MCC)
according to these edit specifications at the time when the data
are included into the MONICA database. All possible
inconsistencies revealed in the data are reported to the MCC
using Form H: Computer Generated Error Correction Form, or by
other means if the number of possible errors in the data is very
large.
Explanations for the edit specifications:
Every record entered into the MDC database is subjected to
the constraints listed below. If the data do not meet the
conditions of the constraint, an error message will be generated.
Such error messages are printed on a Computer Generated Error
Correction Form (Form: H)
Data values which do not meet the conditions of a constraint,
are either incorrect or unusual. All data values printed on the
Computer Generated Error Correction Form should be checked from
the source of the data. However, such values should not be
changed unless they can be shown to be incorrect.
Note! Item TYPE is called STYPE for technical reasons
- DREG_LIMITS_3
- DREG should be a date or 99MMYY or 9999YY or 999999 and
between 010181 and today.
- SEX_LIMITS_3
- Accepted values for SEX are 1 and 2.
- DBIRTH_LIMITS_3
- DBIRTH should be a date or 99MMYY or 9999YY.
DONSET - DBIRTH should be more than 24 years and less
than 75 years.
- (Note the following iterpretations:
- DBIRTH 99MMYY = 15MMYY
DBIRTH 9999YY = 3006YY
DONSET 99MMYY = 15MMYY.)
- DONSET_LIMITS_3
- DONSET should be a date or 99MMYY and at least 010181 and
at most DREG.
- (Note the following interpretations:
- DONSET 99MMYY = 01MMYY
DREG 99MMYY = 28MMYY
DREG 9999YY = 3112YY
DREG 999999 = today.)
- MANAGE_LIMITS_3
- Accepted values for MANAGE are 1,2,3,4,5 and 9.
- SURVIV_LIMITS_3
- Accepted values for SURVIV are 1 and 2 (Note that 9 is
regarded as unusual).
- SURVIV_DDEATH_3
- DDEATH = 888888 <=> SURVIV = 1 or 9.
- SURVIV_DDEATH_DONSET_3
- If SURVIV = 2 and days of DONSET are known then DONSET
< DDEATH < DONSET + 28 days.
If SURVIV = 2 and DONSET = 99MMYY then 01MMYY < DDEATH
< 01MMYY + 58 days.
- SURVIV_NECP_3
- NECP = 8 <==> SURVIV = 1 or 9.
- SURVIV_SURT_3
- SURT = 88 <==> SURVIV = 1 or 9.
If SURVIV = 2 then 0 < SURT < 28 or SURT = 99.
- TYPE_LIMITS_3
- Accepted values for TYPE (STYPE) are 4300 to 4349, 4360
to 4369 and 9999.
- TYPE_DIACAT_3
- If DIACAT = 1 or 5 then 4300 < TYPE < 4349 or 4360
< TYPE < 4369.
if DIACAT = 4 then TYPE = 9999.
if DIACAT = 9 then 4360 < TYPE < 4369 or TYPE =
9999
(Other types are acceptable but rare).
- TYPE_NECD_3
- If NECD1 or NECD2 or NECD3 = 4301 then TYPE should be
4301
- DIACAT_LIMITS_3
- Accepted values for DIACAT are 1,4,5 and 9.
- DIACAT_NECD_3
- If NECD1 or NECD2 or NECD3 = 4300 to 4319 or 4330 to 4349
or 4360 to 4369 then DIACAT=1,5 or 9
- NOTE! This check is NOT done if any of the NECD:s
(NECD1-NECD3) falls into following categories:
- 1910 to 1929 or
1983 to 1984 or
2030 to 2099 or
8500 to 8549 when ICDVER=1
- OR
- 1910 to 1929 or
1983 to 1984 or
2030 to 2089 or
8500 to 8549 when ICDVER=2 or 3.
- DIACAT_SURVIV_3
- If SURVIV = 1 then DIACAT = 1,4 or 5 (DIACAT = 9 is
possible but very uncommon).
- DIACAT_EXAM_NECD_3
- If DIACAT = 1 or 5 then EXAM1 = 1 or EXAM2 = 1 or NECD1
or NECD2 or NECD3 = 4300 to 4349 or 4360 to 4369.
