The MORGAM item ECG was derived from the local ECG records in GER-AUG as follows:

Local ECG finding optimally from four ECG recordings taken on different days: MORGAM code: ECG (ECG findings):
Evolution of typical ECG findings of "transmural (Q wave) infarction":
  • acute stage: evolution of ST segment elevation
  • intermediate stage: decrease of ST elevation, terminal T wave inversion, R wave reduction or R wave loss, pathological Q wave
  • subsequent stage: T wave inversion, pathological Q wave, normalization ST segment
  • late stage: normalization of ST segment, persisting pathological Q wave
1 = definite ECG (Development of Q waves or evolution of an injury current which lasts more than one day)
Evolution of typical ECG findings of "non-transmural (non-Q wave) infarction":
  • ST depression, T wave inversion, no pathological Q wave
2 = probable ECG (Evolution of repolarisation changes)
  • record not satisfying above criteria which nonetheless shows Q wave, ST segment depression, T wave inversion or ST segment elevation
  • ventricular conduction defects or other disturbances
  • ECG missing (for non-fatal events)
3 = ischaemic ECG (Records not satisfying above criteria which nonetheless shows Q-wave, ST segment depression, T wave inversion or ST segment elevation)
  • other ECG findings
4 = other ECG
  • not used
5 = uncodable ECG
  • not used
8 = irrelevant (EVTYPE 1 or 2)
  • insufficient data (for fatal events)
9 = insufficient data
