The principles for the release of results and data in the MORGAM Project are defined in the Publication Rules and the Rules for Release of Data in the MORGAM Manual. Figure 1, which is a simplification of the Figure in section Flow of Data and Material in the Project, depicts the major routes of transfer of material and data in the MORGAM Project.

Transfer of data and material from the MPCs to THL (A and B in Figure 1)

The study data are transferred from the MORGAM Participating Centres (MPC) to the MORGAM Data Centre (MDC) at the Department of Chronic Disease Prevention of the National Institute for Health and Welfare of Finland (THL). The DNA in the genetic component of MORGAM is transferred from the MPCs to the MORGAM Central Laboratory (MCL) at Department of Chronic Disease Prevention  of THL. The principles for these transfers are summarized in Form 54, which can also be used as a template if the MPC requests a signed Agreement.

Transfer of DNA from THL to other MORGAM Laboratories (D and E in Figure 1)

DNA may be transferred from the MCL for genotyping in other MORGAM Laboratories, which will return all genotypic data to the MDC.  The principles for the transfer of DNA from MCL to other MORGAM Laboratories are summarized in Form 52, which will be used as the template for a Material and Data Transfer Agreement between THL and the MORGAM Laboratory concerned. An Agreement will always be signed before such a transfer of DNA can occur, and the MPCs concerned will be sent copies of the Agreement.

Transfer of data from THL to other MORGAM Centres (C in Figure 1)

As described in the Publication Rules, data may be transferred from the MDC to other MORGAM Centres for specified analyses. The principles for such transfer of data from the MDC to another MORGAM Centre are summarized in Form 53, which will be used as the template for a Material and Data Transfer Agreement between the MDC and the other MORGAM Centre. An Agreement will always be signed before such transfer of data can occur, and the MPCs concerned will be sent copies of the Agreement.

Transfer of serum from the MPCs to MBL (G and H in Figure 1)

In the MORGAM Biomarker Substudy, serum is transferred from the MPCs to the MORGAM Biomarker Laboratory (MBL), which will return all biomarker data to the MDC.  The principles for the transfer of serum from the MPCs to the MBL are summarized in Form 55, which will be used as the template for a Material and Data Transfer Agreement between the MPCs, MBL, THL and Queens University Belfast. An Agreement will always be signed before such a transfer of serum can occur.

Updates

Date Update
2003-10-16 First version.
2006-02-09 The name of the department of KTL where the MDC is located was changed from "Department of Epidemiology and Health Promotion" to "Department of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention". A similar change was made in Forms 52, 53 and 54.
2006-09-18 The figure and text was extended to cover the Biomarker Substudy (sections G and H), and Form 55 was added)
2009-03-29 "KTL" was replaced with "THL" and "Neuherberg" was added as a genotyping laboratory.
