:: The PneuCarriage Project
Information about multiple serotype carriage is particularly important when considering the link between immunisation and carriage. A major barrier to the interpretation of such studies is that there is no standard method to detect nasopharyngeal carriage of pneumococcal strains of different serotypes directly from nasopharyngeal specimens.
In response to this gap, the PneumoCarr consortium has developed the PneuCarriage Project (previously PneumoCarr Microbiology Project). This project was previously funded by the PneumoCarr consortium and is now directly funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The PneuCarriage Project aims to tackle the issue of multiple serotype carriage in a coordinated, global fashion. For more information on the project contact Prof. Kim Mulholland (kim.Mulholland@lshtm.ac.uk, Principal investigator) or Dr Catherine Satzke (catherine.satzke@mcri.edu.au, Project leader).
