The aims of the Helsinki Psychotherapy Study (HPS) are the evaluation of the effectiveness of psychotherapies used in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorder patients, the examination of sufficiency of treatments, and evaluation of factors related to suitability to short- vs. long-term therapies. The study is based on a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative database of patient-, therapist- and therapy-related variables on several outcome dimensions, with 15 repeated measurements during a 10-year follow-up.

The HPS is carried out in the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL, Population Health Unit), in co-operation with The Social Insurance Institution of Finland the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, Biomedicum Helsinki, Rehabilitation Foundation, Finnish Student Health Service, and several collaborating universities and researchers in Finland and abroad
